A fire burned a home on rue de la Cour, in Rivière-du-Loup, on Friday evening.
Éric Bérubé, director and head of operations of the Fire Safety Department of the City of Rivière-du-Loup, indicates that the fire started around 6:15 p.m. from the stove of a home located on the 3rd floor of a building.
A firefighter expert in researching the causes and circumstances of the fires will go to the site on Saturday to determine the origin of the fire.
The first team of firefighters to arrive on site extinguished the fire in the home, but the flames had meanwhile spread to the attic and walls of the building, complicating the firefighters’ work.
According to Éric Bérubé, the fire was brought under control in the middle of the evening. He emphasizes that around forty firefighters were on the scene and that the Saint-Antonin barracks were called for reinforcement.
Two families were evacuated and taken care of by the Canadian Red Cross for the night.
The director and head of operations indicates that the damage would affect the accommodation in which the fire broke out as well as the other accommodations in the building, which were damaged because of the water used to extinguish the fire.
