Intoxicated by the blackish smoke, around fifteen people were evacuated to hospitals and clinics in the area, after a fire occurred in a building on Boulevard de l’Almont, in Melun, this Saturday around 12:30 a.m. It was in an apartment on the third floor, out of nine in the building, located in the Almont district, that the fire initially started.
Around forty firefighters were sent to the scene. They managed to contain the flames, so as to prevent them from spreading to the upper floors. While residents, who reported their presence at their windows, were evacuated by firefighters.
But the smoke was uncontrollable. It was by spreading to the highest dwellings that they inconvenienced around twenty victims, around fifteen of whom were more serious than the others. The latter were therefore transported by emergency services to the hospital centers of Melun, Fontainebleau and Montereau in particular.
In the end, the apartment where the flames broke out was completely destroyed. Four people lived there. They will benefit from rehousing, just like the two occupants of the apartment located just above, also affected.
The origin of the fire has not yet been precisely determined. The police have opened an investigation for this purpose. According to the first information collected, it could be a forgotten cigarette.
