Two people died in the early morning this Saturday, November 9 in the fire of the Kermabon HLM building in Douarnenez, in the Tréboul district, near the footbridge which leads to Port Rhu. The alert was given around 6:30 a.m., a nearby police patrol saw smoke escaping from the first floor of the residence.
Seeing the fire, they contacted the firefighters.
The firefighters intervened in building 13 and tried to rescue a first person who was outside on the ground and who had tried to escape the fumes. They also found the lifeless body of a second person inside one of the apartments.
This resident, who was drinking coffee in his kitchen at the time, was looking out the window. He testifies: “There were like reflections sparkling. I opened the window and a burning smell hit my nose. I I leaned towards the window to see where it was coming from, and at the next door there was a fire.”
The gendarmes are on the scene, as well as a magistrate from the Quimper public prosecutor’s office.
A person will have to be rehoused by their family.
