Forty-one points. This is what separates the Spaniard Rodri, Ballon d’or 2024, from the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, his runner-up. On the eve of the publication of the special issue, this Saturday, November 9, France Football reveals part of the details of the votes which awarded this 68th Ballon d’Or to the Manchester City player, to the great dismay of Real Madrid, who decided last moment to boycott the ceremony of October 28 at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
“The number of points which separate the winner of the Ballon d’Or, the Spaniard from Manchester City Rodri, from his runner-up, the Brazilian from Real Madrid Vinicius Jr, is not a record in absolute value in the history of the trophy . But this is little compared to the new scale which this year awards 15 points to the player named in first place (Editor’s note: 15 points for 1st, then 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 )”, we can read this Friday evening on the website of L’Équipe, a title from the same group as France Football.
The specialist magazine reveals other interesting details such as the number of players cited in first place. There are seven of them, so Kylian Mbappé (once) or even Jude Bellingham (5 times). Finally, we learn that five jurors (out of 99 voters) did not place Rodri in their top 5 while only 3 left Vinicius outside of this top 5.
First five places ultimately occupied by Rodri (Manchester City/Spain), Vinicius (Real Madrid/Brazil), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid/England), Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid/Spain) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City/Norway).
