An investigation by Argentine authorities yesterday led to the indictment of three people in the case of the death of Liam Payne on October 16. The former One Direction member was found dead at age 31 after falling from a balcony on the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In a statement, local authorities announced that one person had been charged with “abandonment of a person followed by death and supplying and facilitating drugs”, while a hotel employee and another person had been charged of having sold drugs to the singer. One of the accused is said to have regularly visited Liam Payne during his stay in the Latin American country. The hotel employee will have to “answer for two proven deliveries of cocaine”, while the third accused obtained drugs two days before his death.
“Semi-conscious” or “Unconscious”
The authorities carried out very thorough research, as reported by Guardiannotably collecting several testimonies and carrying out nine searches in addition to the careful examination of surveillance videos. The investigation ruled out suicide or “the involvement of a third party”, while noting the young father’s state of mind.
“The absence of a defense reflex or self-preservation during the fall, as well as other relevant data from his consumption, allow us to conclude that Liam Payne was not fully conscious or that he was in a state of semi-unconsciousness or total unconsciousness at the time of the fall,” the press release stated.
The results of toxicological analyzes on the body of the deceased were also revealed, confirming hypotheses according to which he was in a second place at the time of his death. The examination notably revealed “traces of alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in the star’s body. The report concluded that he died as a result of “multiple trauma” linked to his fall, which notably caused “internal and external bleeding”.
According to AFP, the body of Liam Payne was repatriated to his family in the United Kingdom earlier in the week.
