According to information from the SPVQ
Three suspects were arrested last Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a robbery followed by attempted murder. The event took place on October 26 on the edge of a West Island park.
That day, the victim, a 43-year-old man, went to drive an acquaintance to a park located along the St. Lawrence River in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough. He had previously met the latter, a 19-year-old woman, through a social media platform.
Moments after arriving at the park, the victim was violently removed from his vehicle. Three male individuals then allegedly beat him. The victim managed to escape, but was caught and immobilized by his three alleged attackers. One of them then allegedly tried to stab him, inflicting an injury to his upper body.
Despite his injuries, the man managed to escape again. Once safe, he called 911 to report the attack. However, the suspects allegedly took his cell phone and bank card during the altercation. They subsequently used it to withdraw the sum of $3,000 from the victim’s account.
Arrests
Various elements collected by the team responsible for the investigation quickly made it possible to identify the suspects. All three were arrested during the day of October 30. The first to be apprehended was a 22-year-old man. He was at the Montreal courthouse for another matter when the police picked him up.
The second, a man also aged 22, was in the city center when he was apprehended. Due to the level of risk he presented, it was the SPVM Tactical Intervention Group which carried out his arrest.
The third suspect was in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville district when she was caught by the team responsible for the investigation.
A fourth arrest
Another 24-year-old woman allegedly linked to one of the suspects was also arrested the same day in her apartment in Longueuil, on the South Shore of Montreal. A search at this location led to the recovery of an illegal 40 caliber pistol as well as ammunition.
The four individuals appeared at the Montreal courthouse to answer various charges related to these events. All will remain in detention until the next stage of legal proceedings.
