A world and globalized star, Kylian Mbappé seems as comfortable in front of the international media as with French journalists. To the point that an interview given to an American channel and broadcast this Wednesday a few days before France’s first match at Euro 2024 impressed Anglo-Saxon Internet users.

Kylian Mbappé often appears very comfortable when he comes to answer questions from French journalists at a press conference or in a mixed zone. But obviously, the captain of the Blues also impresses when it comes to speaking to international media. If his impeccable level of Spanish has already made an impression before his signing for Real Madrid, the 25-year-old striker also delights his Anglo-Saxon fans. In an interview given to CNN at the end of May and broadcast this Wednesday by the American channel, the French star shone with his linguistic level.

Basically and a few days before the French team enters the fray for Euro 2024 against Austria, Monday in Düsseldorf (Germany), Kylian Mbappé was not truly revolutionary and is happy with “It’s sure, it’s going to be an extraordinary experience” or even with “It’s another opportunity to write the history of my country”. But the two minutes or so where the Frenchman spoke in perfect English were enough to impress.

Internet users thought they heard Drake or an AI instead of Mbappé

Being totally picky, we can hear a slight French accent but which in no way spoils the understanding of the French attacker’s words. And English-speaking Internet users were stunned when they discovered it.

“He speaks better English than Palmer and Kane,” says a fan on X in a comment under the CNN video. A majority of messages under the post praise the level and pronunciation of ‘Kyks’. Certainly, speaking with a less pronounced accent than Cole Palmer and especially Harry Kane is not insurmountable, but many Internet users are still admiring.

“I can’t even say he’s from France, he’s excellent English,” said another fan. And a third remained in the same tone: “Damn, his English is really good.”

Some commenters on social media even joked that his level of English was so good that it couldn’t have been spoken by Kylian Mbappé himself.

“Was it Drake (a famous Canadian rapper, Editor’s note) who did the dubbing for this video?” suggested one X user. Another joked that an “artificial intelligence” was undoubtedly found behind the impeccable accent of the Blues scorer.
