Rental company Hertz will sell examples of Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT. The sporty electric SUVs will be offered at attractive prices.
Hertz is now ready to get rid of part of its Shelby Mustang Mach-E fleet. The cars in question sport a special Hertz livery as well as a handful of unique parts. Sure, the $65,000 price tag may seem steep, but for those who remember the increase in value of Hertz exclusives, it might not be entirely foolish to consider it.
Are Hertz models a collector’s day?
This isn’t the first time Hertz has ventured into sports car rentals. In the 1960s, the company launched its legendary “Rent-A-Racer” program, which offered Shelby Mustangs to anyone who wanted a taste of thrills. And this, without going through a dealership.
This program did not last, but the concept of leasing high-powered sports cars endured. In fact, the Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT is a unique creation specially designed for Hertz. Shelby only built 100 examples of these cars. In other words, ordinary customers couldn’t go to Shelby or Ford to get one.
This means that this is the only route for those looking for such a unique car. It clearly sports a unique racing livery with gold stripes. But there is better. Each copy of these Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT is also equipped with Borla’s active high-performance exhaust system. Yes, these are electric vehicles. But thanks to this device, they can look like all kinds of thermal sports cars.
Good deal or risk?
Obviously, it is the Americans who are the first to be concerned. But you never know. Otherwise, know that there is not much that differentiates these electric SUVs from other Mach-E GTs. Shelby added a vented hood, carbon fiber rocker panel trim, and a more aggressive front splitter. A few special badges also adorn the interior and exterior. The rims are now unique GT-H models.
That said, these changes are they enough for these cars to deserve Hertz’s sticker price of $65,000? The car rental company actually more than 50 of these cars for sale right now. Most have nearly 10,000 miles on the odometer, or around 16,000 kilometers. Another example has more than 63,000 miles on the odometer (around 100,000 km). But its price is 65,459 dollars. Weird, right?
We would undoubtedly have preferred that these versions had more power than the production Mustang Mach-E GT. Since this is not the case, their value is based on their rarity. And nothing else. There’s no doubt that the original Shelby Mustangs built for Hertz command a high price today. But they are of a completely different kind. Will these electric vehicles be popular in the future? You have to make a bet!
