Trial – Five men are accused of having prepared an assassination attempt, including Richard Perez, a Nîmes businessman nicknamed “the king of trash”
A sulphurous Nîmes businessman, known as the “ex-king of trash cans”, repeated on Monday that he had “absolutely nothing to do” with the attempted assassination of an alleged member of the community. A crime for which he is being prosecuted before the Gard Assize Court. “Absolutely not, I have nothing to do, neither closely nor remotely, with this story,” proclaimed Richard Perez (59 years old) on the first day of his trial. He was responding to the president of the court who asked him if he admitted to having been the instigator of an attempted murder of a former associate, Raymond Houlonne.
Tried with four people, suspected of being his accomplices, he must answer for “repeated complicity in an assassination attempt” and “repeated participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing a crime”. That trial is scheduled until Friday.
Richard Perez made his fortune after cornering the garbage collection market in the city of Nîmes in the 1980s.
