A sulphurous Nîmes businessman, known as the “ex-king of trash cans”, repeated on Monday that he had “absolutely nothing to do” with the attempted assassination of an alleged member of the community. Tried with four people, suspected of being his accomplices, he must answer for “repeated complicity in an assassination attempt” and “repeated participation in a criminal association with a view to preparing a crime”. That trial is scheduled until Friday.

Richard Perez made his fortune after cornering the garbage collection market in the city of Nîmes in the 1980s.
