It once again served as a backdrop in the billionaire’s meetings and is intended to be “an extension of the Trump brand”, as the main person sums it up. Donald Trump will once again become President of the United States and his private Boeing 757 was used during the campaign… Which even caused him some scares this year. We offer you our little cheat sheet on the subject.
Mexico, Denmark, Microsoft… A life before Trump
Released from the Boeing factory in Renton (Washington) in 1991, Donald Trump’s plane first experienced the career of a classic airliner. Delivered to the Danish company Sterling Airlines, it makes low-cost flights in Europe then crosses the Atlantic to do the same thing in the service of the Mexican Taesa. In 1995, Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, bought it to turn it into a private jet. The man who was then one of the richest men in the world did not skimp on means, as described in a portrait taken by The Rolling Stones in 2001. The interior was upholstered in blue leather and Anigré, a precious African wood. . Around a bar located in the center of the plane, he sets up a bedroom, a bathroom as well as a conference room equipped with sofas and around ten seat beds. There is even a rotisserie on board. In 2011, the billionaire ended up selling it to Donald Trump for a price estimated around $100 million.

“Tyson 1”, a flying palace to the taste of the billionaire
Known under the designator “Tyson 1”, a probable homage to Mike Tyson who fought several fights in Donald Trump’s casinos, the B757 is becoming even more gentrified. Proud of the result, Donald Trump appeared in a documentary (above) on the subject. The businessman notably had the seat belts and fittings plated in 24-carat gold. Equipped with Rolls-Royce engines more powerful than the original ones, it can now carry 43 passengers with a range of 7,600 kilometers.
A financial pit that steals little
While a plane ticket is expensive, a personal long-haul flight is unaffordable, even for a billionaire: the hour of flight is estimated between 15 and 18,000 dollars for the B757. According to figures collected by Business Insider, the device takes off very little each year. In 2023, he spent only 270 hours in the sky, mainly between Palm Beach (Florida), where Donald Trump has a golf course, and New York. Still according to the American magazine, the bill amounted to 2.6 million dollars just for fuel… With a carbon footprint of 4,100 tonnes of CO2.
An eventful year
After his election to the White House in 2016, Donald Trump abandoned his B757 for the two B747 “Air Force One” of the United States presidency. Parked for several years on the tarmac of Orange County Airport (New York), the aircraft fell into disrepair. One of the reactors is even dismantled. In 2021, Donald Trump finally spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to restore his plane for the next presidential election (video below).
The year 2024 has not been easy for the device. In May, one of its wings struck a small private jet while it was taxiing at West Palm Beach International Airport (Florida). In August, the B757 had to make an emergency landing at Billings airport (Montana), while taking Donald Trump to a campaign rally. The 33-year-old aircraft was able to land safely despite a hydraulic failure. He was able to take off again at the end of the summer to accompany the one who will return to Air Force One in a few months.
