The City of Baie-Comeau is asking people to avoid the area.

Baie-Comeau firefighters are battling a fire that broke out in an auto parts store Monday evening.
The building which was engulfed in flames is located at the corner of Boulevard Lasalle and Avenue Roméo-Vézina.

The imposing cloud of smoke attracted many curious people Monday evening.

The imposing cloud of smoke attracted several dozen people. However, the City of Baie-Comeau asks people to avoid the area in order to facilitate the work of the fire department.
A detour has been put in place via Avenue Babel to allow motorists to bypass the scene.

The Sûreté du Québec is on site to assist the firefighters. Urgence-Environnement is also on the scene.
As of Monday evening, it was still unclear what caused the fire.
