The professional exhibition of outdoor hotel equipment, better known as SETT, is being held until this evening in Montpellier and has just awarded an innovation prize to a Puydomoise company located in Aigueperse, Culbuto, for its solar rotating composter, which avoids odors and pests. Discovery
What is SETT?
The outdoor hotel equipment trade fair, imagined 45 years ago by the Languedoc federation, highlights qualitative, innovative and sustainable solutions for its thriving market.
The outdoor hospitality (HPA) sector, more widely known as camping, is undergoing profound change in France, marked by an upscaling of infrastructure and increasing attractiveness for investors. It is gradually becoming the new face of French tourism, especially since covid. The sector generated a turnover of 2.8 billion euros in 2023, with an annual growth rate of 3.5%.
141.7 million overnight stays were recorded during the summer of 2023, placing HPA at the top of the tourist accommodation modes in France, ahead of traditional hotels. Moreover, France has 685,400 campsites, surpassing the 655,900 hotel rooms available in the country. 40% of pitches are now equipped with mobile homes or chalets, compared to 30% in 2016, illustrating a continued move upmarket.
France remains the leading network of campsites in Europe and the second worldwide behind the United States.
The AGEC law, virtues and limits
As you know, a new “anti-waste for a circular economy” law was introduced in 2020 which “intends to accelerate the change in production and consumption models in order to limit waste and preserve natural resources, biodiversity and the climate. » defines several areas for improvement such as moving away from disposable plastic and using reusable tableware, promoting bulk to reduce packaging, fighting against waste and for solidarity reuse, acting against planned obsolescence and recovering bio-waste.
On this last aspect, companies are obliged, since 1is January 2024, to sort food waste at source and ensure that it can be recycled. The most virtuous have set up dedicated bins, or even composters, to fulfill this obligation.
Except that the municipalities have not integrated the collection of this food waste into the rounds and that it degrades and ferments, producing methane and its share of nauseating odors. In addition, by the enticing smell, voles, Norway rats, and even rats proliferate in the neighborhood.
The Culbuto solar rotary composter
“Rotary composting is a motorized process that mimics natural composting while avoiding manual mixing. It transforms organic matter using bacteria and fungi naturally present in waste, using an aerobic process. This process produces fresh compost, useful for improving soil fertility and structure. »
Designed to be above ground and waterproof, the CULBUTO COMPOSTEUR eliminates odors and does not attract pests. Thanks to its automated operation, it supports operations that are usually carried out manually, offering a practical and ecological solution for waste management in common areas.
Téo Toriani and his team have developed several rotary composter solutions, including the solar version which won SETT Gold for Innovation.
