Last Sunday, on the evening of the end of the school holidays, hundreds of motorists found themselves literally stuck in the Var valley. A traffic jam of several kilometers formed in the downward direction, along departmental road 6202.
Construction site, long weekend, end of vacation
The cause is the record crowds over a three-day weekend coinciding with the end of the holidays, combined with the ongoing development work on the Mescla and Reveston tunnels. Traffic is only on one lane and a light allows alternate passage between motorists coming from the Var valley and Tinée. Enough to impact traffic.
Work completed next week
In order to avoid new traffic jams, the departmental council has also decided that “on the weekend of November 11, both lanes of the tunnel will be open during the busiest time slot to avoid a further slowdown when descending from the valleys”.
The departmental community also announces that “the work in question will be completed during the week for a complete reopening”.
