Houston, Texas – MLS club Houston Dynamo announced that Mexican midfielder Héctor Herrera will not continue with the team for the 2025 season, following a spitting incident directed at a referee.
In an official statement posted on their website, Houston Dynamo revealed that Herrera’s name was among the players who will be leaving the organization. “For 2025, the team has declined the contract renewal option for six players,” the club said, listing Jan Gregus, Junior Moreno, Brad Smith, Ousmane Sylla, Xavier Valdez and ‘HH’ as starting members.
In the recent match against the Seattle Sounders, Herrera started as captain and received a yellow card in the 64th minute after a foul against referee Armando Villarreal. Subsequently, the midfielder spat where the referee was standing, leading Villarreal to consult the VAR and, after reviewing the incident, sending the player off with a red card.
