Here is the sharp increase that your gas bill will experience in July

Bad news, in July your gas bill will cost you more in June. It will even experience a fairly significant increase, according to figures given by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) this Monday, June 10, 2024.

Why will the price of gas increase?

If the gas price will increase from July 1, 2024, it is mainly because of an increase in distribution costs. GRDF, the distribution network manager, bears the cost of transporting this energy and then invoices it to suppliers. These can in turn pass it on to prices, increasing consumers’ bills.

Thus, the CRE explains that it provides a reference price for gas “for information”the different suppliers being “free to set the price conditions of their offers” and whether or not to increase their customer’s invoice following this increase. The national energy mediator nevertheless estimates that the vast majority of the 10 million residential users connected to the GRDF distribution network should be affected.

What increase in gas prices?

The price of gas is expected to increase by 11.7% on average in July compared to June. The average level of the reference price will be 129.2 euros including tax per megawatt hour (MWh) in July, compared to 115.7 euros/MWh in June. If the price experiences an increase, and a greater one at that, the CRE puts things into perspective by indicating that it is “less than 4.7 euros/MWh including tax” to the average gas price in January, which represents a drop of 3.5%.
