The La Liga match between Valencia and Espanyol Barcelona which was to take place on Saturday is postponed due to floods affecting the Valencia region.
The La Liga match between Valencia and Espanyol Barcelona, scheduled for Saturday, was postponed on Wednesday by the Spanish Football Federation due to flooding which left at least 219 and 89 missing, the vast majority of whom were in the Valencia region. “This decision is linked to the situation generated by DANA (name given in Spanish to the meteorological phenomenon causing the floods, Editor's note), which caused a number of deaths which remains to be determined and considerable material damage,” declared the federation in a press release on Wednesday.
It follows the formal request of the Valencian club, supported by La Liga, to postpone at least its next league match scheduled for Saturday, after having already obtained the postponement of its Liga match against Real Madrid, and of the Copa del Rey against to Parla Escuela fans. “At this moment, football is secondary and all efforts must be directed towards those affected by the tragic consequences of DANA, to whom Valencia wishes to express its deepest condolences and support,” the club said in a statement. In the second division, Levante, another team based in the Valencia region, were also granted a postponement for their match at Tenerife.
