Perpignan: barely returned from leave, an inmate attacks an officer at the end of his shift and tries to flee the prison

The prison staff, who were preparing to return home, should file a complaint following these facts.

While returning from leave, an inmate exhibited behavior “unusual” et “inadmissible” towards prison officers. The UFAP UNSa Justice union echoes this.

This Wednesday, November 6, 2024, after having had authorization to leave prison for the day for medical purposes, the accused allegedly attacked staff in civilian clothes who were about to leave on his return and “about to go home to his family.” The forty-year-old, probably under the influence of an alcoholic state, would have questioned the locker room supervisor, insulted and threatened him several times, then pushed him.

Two other personnel in civilian clothes would have come as reinforcements while the inmate would have tried to leave the penitentiary establishment. “An action considered as an attempt to escape”signals Pierre Grousset, the local secretary of the UFAP UNSa Justice.

This person, who was placed in the disciplinary unit following these facts, was sentenced in particular for threats to kill a spouse, driving under the influence of drugs and threats towards a person holding public authority.

The union explains “do not tolerate the safety and dignity of staff being put in danger” and demands “the transfer of the individual concerned following his disciplinary sanction.”

The prison officer attacked should file a complaint for threats, insults and assault.
