Auvergne could no longer have a representative in the European Parliament. Brice Hortfeux’s seventh place on the LR list should not allow the outgoing deputy to regain his seat, since the Republicans could only have, according to the latest estimates, six elected officials.

The only MEP from an Auvergne department to run again, Brice Hortefeux (Les Républicains) was in seventh position on François-Xavier Bellamy’s list. With some 7% of the votes, the LR list should only send six elected officials to Parliament.

As a result, the Puydômois elected official, who had his first European mandate in 1999, should not be reappointed and Auvergne would no longer have a representative… unless one of the six elected Les Républicains ultimately did not take the position. direction of Brussels. Otherwise, Auvergne would no longer have a representative.

“I did not get involved in this campaign for a place, but to defend convictions, affirms Brice Hortefeux. What I see is that we were announcing the disappearance of the Republicans. This is not the case. We will have elected representatives in the most important group in the European Parliament. Even if our result is not what we hoped for, we are making progress. This is also what we must remember.

For Laurent Wauquiez (Les Républicains), “this European election announces the end of macronism”

Beyond the national and European scores, Brice Hortefeux, president of the LR federation of Puy-de-Dôme since 2016, focused this Sunday evening on the legislative elections of June 30 and July 7, the next deadline induced by the dissolution of the National Assembly decided by the President of the Republic.

“He chose, as the law allows him, the shortest period. I think that given the situation, the dissolution was inevitable. And cards will inevitably be redistributed”, announces Brice Hortefeux who is counting on the presence of candidates LR on the five constituencies of Puy-de-Dôme, a department in which his party has no MP.
