Experts have found that the color of a child’s swimsuit can improve their safety and prevent cases of drowning during a day at the beach or around the pool.

“The color of a child’s swimsuit can have a significant impact on their visibility in the water, which is essential for preventing drownings,” said Bernard Fisher, director of health and safety at the American Lifeguard Association in an email obtained by CNN.

He says bright, contrasting hues are better noticed underwater, making it easier for rescuers and parents to see a child. He recommends neon yellow, orange, pink and bright red.

Conversely, Fisher advises against wearing light blue, gray or green, since these shades can blend into the water and pool environment.

The ideal scenario for the DD Maneesha Agarwal says that you should never rely on the color of the swimsuit to find a child in the event of drowning.

The associate professor of pediatrics and emergency medicine at Emory University School of Medicine said the study “makes sense” but said there is no concrete evidence that a swimsuit fluorescent bath will save a child from drowning.

Adult supervision therefore remains the best way to save a child. Installing fencing and swimming lessons are other methods to prevent such a tragedy.
