A festive Halloween weekend turned into tragedy in the town of Saint-Péray, in Ardèche, when a shooting broke out in front of the Le Seven nightclub, leaving three people injured, including a 22-year-old young man, Nicolas Dumas. , who died of his injuries. This tragedy deeply shook the local community, in particular the rugby club where the victim played.

An evening that turns into a nightmare

Around 2:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, while many revelers were waiting to enter the nightclub, a hooded individual opened fire on the crowd, hitting three people. Nicolas Dumas, member of the Rugby Club Romanais Péageois, was seriously injured in the head. A 24-year-old young woman was hit in the leg and another 22-year-old young man was hit by bullet fragments.

Emergency services quickly intervened to treat the injured and transport them to hospital. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of doctors, Nicolas did not survive his injuries. The other two victims are fortunately out of danger.

Suspects arrested, a privileged lead

The investigation, entrusted to the Valencia judicial police, progressed quickly with the arrest of two suspects. The alleged shooter, a 23-year-old Franco-Tunisian, was arrested in in . His supposed accomplice, a 19-year-old Italian suspected of having served as driver, was arrested in Marseille on a notorious deal point.

According to sources close to the investigation, one of the favored hypotheses would be that the two men were sponsored from Marseille to extort money from the night establishment. They reportedly burned their getaway vehicle after the shooting. Investigations are continuing to determine the exact circumstances and motivations of this tragedy.

A bereaved rugby club, a white march in tribute

The sudden death of Nicolas plunged the Rugby Club Romanais Péageois into deep sadness. The young man was very popular there. Tragically ironically, the club had already lost another young player a year ago, Thomas, in an accident at Crépol.
