Formula 1 fans are impatiently awaiting the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix which will be held on November 3 at the legendary Interlagos circuit in Brazil. This legendary race promises to be once again rich in emotions and twists and turns.
The Interlagos circuit, a demanding route
Located between two lakes, hence its name “Interlagos”, the Autódromo José Carlos Pace is renowned for its technical and winding route which puts drivers and single-seaters to the test. 4.309 km long, it includes a succession of rapid bends and delicate climbs.
The record for the fastest lap has been held since 2018 by Valtteri Bottas with an impressive time of 1’10”540. Beating this time will require an exceptional performance from the drivers entered this year.
A promising starting grid
The first line will be occupied by Lando Norris on McLaren, author of pole position in 1’23”405, and George Russell at the wheel of his Mercedes. These two young guns will be keen to make their good start a reality.
Behind them, Yuki Tsunoda et Esteban Oconrespectively with Racing Bulls and Alpine, complete the top 4. They will have to jostle to hope for a podium. The third row will see the promising novice set off Liam Lawson and the experienced Charles Leclerc.
Disappointment on the other hand for the big names Max Verstappen et Lewis Hamiltonrelegated to 17th and 15th position respectively following mechanical problems in qualifying. They will have a lot to do to get back into the points.
The challenges of the Grand Prix
At this stage of the season, every point will count in the race for the world championship title. The current leader of the ranking will have to ensure a solid result to maintain his lead.
His runner-up will try to seize his chance to catch up and reignite the suspense. The mid-table teams will be looking to score valuable points for the constructors’ championship.
Behind, the battle will rage between AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Haas to secure the coveted 6th place in the manufacturers’ standings. Each position gained could make the difference at the end of the season.
Predictions for the race
With a 100% British front row, hopes are high for Lando Norris who will aim for victory. But watch out for the great departure of George Russell who will want to take charge quickly.
Behind, Charles Leclerc will have a card to play if he manages to get a good start from 6th place. Also not to be underestimated is Fernando Alonso, always formidable at the wheel of his Aston Martin.
“It’s a race that is particularly close to my heart, in front of an always incredible Brazilian crowd. I can’t wait to battle it out!”
– said a confident pilot
Even if they start from afar, we must not bury Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton too quickly. Their talent and their team’s strategy could allow them to catch up and secure a result.
