Three people were taken to hospital in stable condition following a fire at a four-storey apartment building Friday evening in downtown Winnipeg.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the 200 block of Vaughan Street, near Portage Avenue, at 6:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, emergency services evacuated the residents who were still inside the apartment, according to a press release issued Friday by the City.

Before crews arrived, other residents were able to get out.

For the moment, the cause of the fire remains unknown and firefighters have not yet estimated the damage.

Residents whose suites were not damaged by fire and smoke were able to return to their rooms, the City said.
