“I learned a rule today”, “unlikely end of the match”: reactions after the cruel defeat of the MHR in Castres

Joan Caudullo, Sam Simmonds, Arthur Vincent, Jeremy Davidson and Gauthier Maravat presented themselves at a press conference after ' victory at the finish against (30-26).

Castres

Gauthier Maravat, second line of the CO : “On this touch. He takes the ball with both hands, we are beaten in the air. Their snatcher hits a little low, the ball goes up. I try and the ball ends up in my hands. Afterwards, he passes what It's happening and good for the team. It's totally opportunism. We had one last shot, we knew how to make it happen. We often stayed in their camp during the match and we couldn't make it happen. . We did it at the right time. We didn't steal it either.”

Jeremy Davidson, manager du CO : “This end of the match was hard to live with. We didn't want to lose at home. In the first half, we had too much waste, too many turnovers. Montpellier came with a very strong team. Hats off to them for the performance, especially in scrums and on carried balls. We showed character to fight. The end of the match was improbable with the ball being recovered on the ground. I'm very happy with the performance at the end.”

Montpellier

Joan Caudullo, MHR manager : “When you win the match, it sucks to lose it. For me, today, we won it. Unfortunately, in the 80th minute, there was a throw-in. I learned a rule today, I didn't know that we were allowed to hit the jumper in the air. I have to learn the rules, even at 42 years old. I have the feeling that we did everything to win. . We won it from the first to the 80th. Unfortunately, there were two more minutes. Castres scored, congratulations to them today.

We had put in place a strategy which worked well, which gave us the possibility of winning this match. They were harmed. Castres had some very good home matches and won against Stade Toulousain, the best team in the championship. I have the feeling that we did what was necessary to win. I spoke to my players. We congratulated them (last week) with a good quality match. “There, it was the same, except that you lost… I don't know what to tell you.”

I am proud of them, I congratulated them. We are missing a few things that make it easier to win matches. There were ways to do other things at times. But I'm so frustrated… In the 80th minute, there was a mistake from Castres which prevented us from winning the match.”

Arthur Vincent, MHR center : “It's really frustrating to lose. We had put in the ingredients. We must welcome the return of Castres but I think that it was individual errors which were the turning points of the match. These are errors which mean that we do not “We didn't get paid for the effort and the state of mind. However, we were right. We have to use it, there is good content despite everything.”

Sam Simmonds, MHR third row: “We're going to be frustrated this week. It's been two weeks without a game. We did enough to win today. Everyone who watched the game knows we did the right thing. We have to improve, learn to finish matches we did it last week, we had to do it again today we were so close… We have to use this frustration now.
