It was the fire that dislodged them: two squatters left a burning building before it was destroyed

On October 31, 2024, two squatters were forced to leave the building they occupied due to a fire. The building, which is located in Illinois, United States, was abandoned and in very poor condition.

They had no choice. During the night from Wednesday to Thursday, in the United States, two illegal occupants of a building had to leave the premises because of a fire, reports WCIA. The building burned to the second floor.

Awakened by the flames

On Thursday, around 4 a.m., firefighters in the town of Danville, Illinois, were called to a fire in an abandoned building in the town. However, it was not completely. Two men illegally occupied the building, and had to be rescued by firefighters.

The two squatters were on the first floor of the building, and were able to escape thanks to emergency services. Discomforted by the fumes, they were examined by a team of ambulances. No injuries were reported.

The destroyed building

Abandoned for several years, the building burned down to the second floor. Thanks to the intervention of firefighters from the roof using their ladder truck, the fire was brought under control.

However, the building was destroyed because it was too fragile. At the request of the town hall, a private company took care of operations. The causes of the fire are unknown.
