Bordeaux: the ceiling of the room of a patient who has just given birth in the hospital maternity ward collapses: News

The events took place during the night of Sunday October 27 to Monday October 28. A piece of the ceiling of a room in the maternity ward of the Pellegrin hospital in collapsed onto the bed of a young woman who had just given birth. Fortunately, no one was injured.

A happy event that could ultimately have gone wrong. During the night of Sunday October 27 to Monday October 28, debris from the ceiling fell on the bed of a patient who had just given birth. The events took place in the maternity ward of the Pellegrin hospital in Bordeaux as reported by Bleu on its site.

The young woman was not injured. Similar events had already taken place last September in the emergency room of the same hospital. For the Sud and CGT unions of the Bordeaux University Hospital, these recurring facts highlight problems of dilapidation and water infiltration in the premises of the hospital establishment. “It's a cardboard slab which, by dint of taking on water, has completely disintegrated and when you enter the room, you see holes in the ceiling, water everywhere, with sheets to mop up, dangling wires and water, water, water, water.”the unions are indignant.

“The staff is completely disappointed”

Deeply affected, the staff, according to Thomas Rouzerol, caregiver and CGT union delegate, protested: “This type of incident is not new, and despite our numerous alerts concerning water infiltration, nothing has changed. The mother, who normally celebrated a birth, risks having bitter memories of her stay in the hospital .”

Last September, part of the metal ceiling fell in an emergency room. “Adult emergency services are in critical condition, completely overwhelmed”explains Julien Dulou, representative of Sud Santé Sociaux. He also adds: “As soon as it rains, leaks multiply. Our goal is not to discredit the hospital, but to ask that patients and staff operate in safe conditions.”

Contacted by our colleagues from France Bleu, the management of the Bordeaux University Hospital has not yet responded to the questions asked on these problems.
