The end of support for Windows 10 is fast approaching, and Microsoft is gradually preparing the ground. After recommending buying a new PC if your computer was not compatible with Windows 11, the Redmond firm is offering a new temporary solution to keep your computer secure.
The transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is approaching
In a blog post published on October 31, 2024, Microsoft adds another layer by answering the following question: “How to prepare for the end of support for Windows 10 by switching to Windows 11 today?”.

The most interesting is the last part, which focuses on a device previously reserved for professionals: Extended Security Updates (ESU).
A paid subscription to continue securing Windows 10
Thanks to this Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, Microsoft is allowing individuals for the first time to extend support for their PC operating system, here Windows 10.
To do this, you will have to spend the sweet sum of $30 in order to receive security patches deemed “critical” for an additional year.
Businesses will be able to extend support for Windows 10 up to 3 years after the end of its support, scheduled for October 14, 2025. The amount of Extended Security Updates (ESU) for professionals will start at $61 for the first year, then $122 for the second, and $244 for the third.
Increasingly high amounts which will encourage the switch to Windows 11, whether by updating or purchasing new hardware.
