Sarah Gauthier and Lou-Anne Pigot, two 3rd year undergraduate biology-ecology students at the Faculty of Sciences of Montpellier, as part of their end-of-study project, organized the Biodiversity Day at the Cottage park, with the approval of the municipality attentive to this subject. This event aimed to raise awareness among residents of environmental issues, particularly by providing them with knowledge about the diversity of species present in the region.

To do this, the two students were helped by Jean-Pierre Trouillas, from CO Gard (Gard Ornithological Center), for the ornithological activities and inventories and by Viou Sandor, a young beekeeper from Manduel present with one of his hives, to provide knowledge on the importance of bees in the functioning of ecosystems. They also received help from biology students for the entomological stands and activities on insects.

Exhibitions

The leaders and elected officials of the municipal youth council also hosted a stand on the creation of flower bombs and the creation of an ollas, a natural watering system. A student in BTS Management, nature protection at Pôle sup nature in Montpellier, also gave a conference with an interactive game, on forgotten species. This project will materialize in an exhibition, “The Bestiary of the Forgotten”, from September 6 to 8, at the Halle Tropisme in Montpellier.

Likewise, a participatory photo exhibition showcased the naturalist talents of professionals and amateurs alike.

The winners of the exhibition and the raffle received tickets to Micropolis, the Pont-du-Gau ornithological park and boxes of wines from the Héraclès organic cellar. All with very positive feedback from the 200 people who attended this event.
