The time of the outcome in the case of the death of Céleste, named after this 15-year-old girl, raped and killed in August 2020 in Nantes. In the dock of the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court since last Friday (October 25), a 50-year-old man, François Vergniaud. His fate will be sealed this Thursday, probably at the end of the afternoon.
An accused whose impassive attitude raises questions. The fifty-year-old, who admitted the facts, is well known to the legal services: he was already sentenced in 2005 to 18 years in prison for nine rapes and three attempted rapes. He was released from prison in 2014, and it was six years later that he reoffended. He will cross paths with young Céleste in August 2020 in Nantes.
The recidivism in question
Behind the young girl's death, there is the thorny subject of recidivism. Did the medical profession fail? According to West France, the day after the crime, the accused went to the doctor as if nothing had happened. The specialist realized a few days later that his patient was the cause of Céleste's brutal death.
François Vergniaud now risks life imprisonment.
