In a speech delivered Monday in the Knesset, during a ceremony commemorating the victims of October 7, 2023, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who spoke in front of bereaved families and relatives of the hostages, adopted particularly harsh rhetoric towards Hamas. He called its members “human monsters, responsible for murder, abuse and kidnapping.”

He also pointed the finger at Iran, described as “the conductor of an axis of evil” operating in the region, a thinly veiled reference to Hezbollah and other armed groups supported by Tehran.

Regarding the prospects for a ceasefire, the Israeli Prime Minister placed the hostage issue at the center of his concerns, defining it as a “central element of the victory mission”. He insisted on the need to return “all hostages, living and dead” to Israel, suggesting that this condition would be decisive in any future negotiations.

While leaving the door open for negotiations, Mr. Netanyahu maintained a firm stance on military objectives, promising to continue the fight “until victory” against those who “seek to destroy” Israel.

The same day, Mr. Netanyahu affirmed Monday that he wanted to continue diplomatic normalization efforts with Middle Eastern countries, building on the Abraham Accords, in order to “achieve peace with other countries.” Arabs”.

“I aspire to continue the process that I began a few years ago with the historic signing of the Abraham Accords to achieve peace with other Arab countries,” he told the Knesset.
