“It won’t change my vote”: Americans react to Trump’s conviction

Our journalist Véronique Dubé went to Plattsburgh, in New York State, to survey Americans on their reactions to this conviction.

This American has always voted for the Republican Party. And Trump’s conviction will not change that.

“I believe in the verdict. But that won’t change my vote, I’ll still vote for him. Because I am a Republican,” she says.

Several Americans met by our journalist, however, admitted not to vote, whether out of disinterest in politics or cynicism.

“I have never voted in my life. It doesn’t affect me personally,” testifies this woman, seated on a terrace.

“There is no winner. There is negative on both sides. Why would I vote?”, adds this man.

But if there are the diehard Republicans and those who are indifferent to politics, at the other end of the spectrum, we also find those who hold the ex-president in horror.

“For me, we were doing so much better before him. I would like everyone to believe the truth and no longer be their puppet,” confides this lady, who admits to being worried as the elections on November 5 approach.

What do teenagers think?

If this teenager met at lunchtime near a high school is of the opinion that a person convicted of a criminal offense should not be able to be elected president, he still does not see himself voting for Joe Biden. “Trump has better goals,” he says.
