The Casa África Prize for Best Director is awarded to Moroccan director Leïla Kilani for her film Indivision, “for her mastery and audacity in bringing this captivating narrative to life. A tale from the Arabian Nights revisited by a director close to the concerns of our time: violence in class relations, virtual lives lived through social networks, the environmental crisis and the eternal question of man facing nature “. The prize, presented by Azza Chaabouni, was received by Leïla Kilani herself.

The feature film Disco África: a Malagasy story, was recognized with the V AERCA Prize for Spanish Cooperation at FCAT. The AECID Jury, chaired by Elvira Cámara, head of the Cultural Activities Unit of the Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), decided to award the V AERCA Prize of Spanish Cooperation in the feature film Disco África: a Malagasy story by filmmaker Luck Razanajaona (Madagascar, 2023) “for his reflection on the opportunities for sustainable development in Africa, which translate into individual opportunities for each person, and for each country”.

Girley Jazama won the Best Actress Award for Under the Hanging Tree “for her remarkable performance in a film with a complex narrative that evokes colonial violence”; while Parista Sambo received the Best Actor Award for Disco Afrika “for his subtle and authentic performance in the film”.

The Andalusian jury, composed of Chaimaa Boukharsa, Agus Jiménez and Pablo García Casado, decided to award the FAMSI Prize for best short film to Bazigaga, by Jo Ingabire Moys. The jury underlines “the importance of placing a woman at the center of the story in a war context, their stories often being invisible”. Its heroine, Zula Karuhimbe, saved more than 100 people from certain death by risking her own life. Challenging a patriarchal and colonial society in an environment as hostile and dangerous as the war in Rwanda, which is rare. It is an example of resistance and strength. The director herself, Jo Ingabire Moys, is a survivor of this genocide.

In addition, the Andalusian jury decided to give a special mention to the short film The Voice of Others by Fátima Kaci “for having expressed so well, through the eyes of its protagonist, the dramatic situation of migrants during administrative procedures, their pain and suffering, faced with the coldness of the bureaucracy of the system, without being able to avoid their personal involvement.”

The TV5 Monde Audience Prize is awarded to The Specter of Boko Haram, by Cameroonian director Cyrielle Raingou. The director, during her visit to Tarifa, explained that “making cinema gave her the impression of being free for the first time”.

The jury of FCAT LAB, the festival’s post-production workshop, composed of Lara Sousa, Maher Diaba and Nikolas Montaldi, awarded the Tarifa African Film Festival Prize to Zion Music. The Bienza Translations, La Colorá and Sudu Connexion prizes were awarded to You don’t die twice. The Tomahawk Digital Cinema Services Award went to Kileo, the Tres Gatos Sonido Award to Zion Music, and the Laserfilm Award to The Magma.
