According to De Telegraaf, FC Metz has decided to exercise the option to purchase Georges Mikautadze, on loan from Ajax Amsterdam during the last winter transfer window. This is estimated at 13 million euros, but Messins have yet to come to an agreement with the Georgian striker.

Georges Mikautadze’s first big bet abroad is close to being a definitive failure. Bought for 16 million euros last summer by Ajax Amsterdam after a flamboyant season in Ligue 2 where he finished top scorer with 23 goals, Mikautadze played six small matches in the Eredivisie with the Dutch. In distress in the Netherlands, the striker found a second wind at FC Metz where he was loaned with an option to buy last winter.

With 13 goals, the Georgian largely allowed the Messins to compete in the play-offs to keep their hopes of remaining in Ligue 1. Despite his renewed form, Mikautadze should not return to Ajax Amsterdam. According to De Telegraaf, FC Metz has exercised the purchase option estimated at 13 million euros, the player’s agreement to definitively commit to the 16th in Ligue 1 is still missing.

A nice added value to come for Metz?

About to play Euro 2024 with Georgia, Mikautadze may not stay in Metz for long. If the striker’s mission is to keep his club in the elite, after a first defeat in the play-offs against Saint-Etienne (2-1), it seems complicated to imagine him staying with Messins, especially if the latter are relegated to Ligue 2.

Especially since the native of Lyon is targeted by Monaco. As revealed by RMC Sport, the striker is the priority for the Monegasques to replace Wissam Ben Yedder, free of any contract. After pocketing a nice sum last summer with his player, Metz should have the possibility of obtaining even more than the 16 million euros obtained during the operation with the Dutch. Before this possible scenario, Mikautadze will try to put on the savior costume again during the next confrontation against the Greens (June 2), to keep the Messins in the elite.
