The Alpes-Maritimes department has been on ORANGE “rain-flood” alert since Friday October 25 at 10 p.m. and will remain so until Sunday October 27 at 6 a.m.
It will then go into YELLOW “rain-flood” alert until 11 p.m. Sunday evening. A
YELLOW “thunderstorm” vigilance is also activated from this Saturday at 4 p.m. and until Sunday October 27 at 11 p.m.
Current situation
The precipitation was less intense than expected.
Total rainfall recorded over 24 hours at 4 p.m. local time:
– Grasse pre-Alps: 40 to 60 mm (57mm recorded at Cipières and La Turbie)
– Vésubie and Tinée: 30 to 40 mm
– littoral: 20 to 30 mm
Expected development
A large line of storms is arriving in the west of the Var department which will affect the Alpes-Maritimes department in the evening and during the first part of the night. The coastline will be impacted first with accumulations of 20 to 30 mm.
Then the pre-Alps of Grasse, the valleys of Var, Tinée and Vésubie with accumulations of an additional 40 to 60 mm. A total of 100 to 120 mm will be reached at the end of the night in these sectors. The entire department is affected by the phenomenon.
No stationarity envisaged, the storms are circulating well but uncertainty remains on the reliefs.
Maximum hourly accumulations: 30/40 mm/h
Snow fell from 2,500 meters.
Reactions on waterways:
No overflow was observed. Vigicrues nevertheless maintains ORANGE vigilance on the upstream Var and YELLOW vigilance on the middle and downstream Var.
Instructions to the population:
– Find out information before undertaking a trip or any other external activity,
– Under no circumstances go on foot or by car on a submerged path or near a watercourse. A vehicle, even a 4×4, can be swept away in 30 centimeters of water,
– Keep yourself informed, follow the safety instructions. Care about your neighbors and take appropriate precautions,
– Under no circumstances go down into the basements during the rainy period,
– Preventively protect your belongings from water.
