the hit by impressive storms

Placed on orange rain-flood alert, the has been experiencing significant rainfall since the middle of the night. Thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the day.

The night was restless in the Var. Since 3 a.m., the department has been on orange alert for rain-flooding, and downpours have already fallen locally. Rainfall accumulations are significant.

According to the Météo- bulletin published at 7:51 a.m. this Friday, October 25, the Var is affected by a “succession of storm cells”. The Le Luc-Le Muy-Vidauban triangle is particularly concerned.

According to estimates, 80 to 120mm fell in a few hours, or even “locally 150mm towards Vidauban”, including 100mm in just thirty minutes.

Stormy showers should continue throughout the day according to Météo France, “despite periods of calm”. Accumulations should reach 50 to 80 mm, or even 120 to 150 mm inland. Météo France even predicts up to 230 mm in the Luc sector.

In a press release published on X, the prefecture called for “exercise caution near rivers”. The heavy rains are already generating “a strong reaction from the Aille”, according to Météo France.

Travel is also made difficult since the Var Departmental Council reported “a landslide” on the RD 558, between des Maures and Freinet. Now reopened, departmental road 17 was however flooded and therefore closed to traffic for a time.
