A major rescue operation has been taking place in La Plaine-sur-Mer (Loire-Atlantique) since 5 p.m., this Friday, October 25, 2024. Firefighters were called to a car fire in the basement of a house “which spread to the ground floor”at a place called La Vinotière. The occupant of the house was slightly injured in this fire, indicates the departmental fire and rescue operational center (Codis).
The explosion generated by gas cylinders
According to emergency services, several gas cylinders exploded as firefighters attacked the fire. For its part, the gendarmerie indicates that three explosions rang out, probably linked to the presence of gas cylinders. “Four firefighters were injured” by one of the explosions, indicates the Codis of Loire-Atlantique. Slightly injured, they were not transported to hospital but were treated on site by rescue teams.
The house is damaged. It was occupied by an elderly couple who had been living in this hamlet of the commune for several years, indicates Séverine Marchand, mayor of La Plaine-sur-Mer. The couple was particularly shocked. The man was slightly injured in the hand.
