“Insidious”, “Conjuring” and “Paranormal Activity” also present in the ranking

The British site asked 250 participants to watch no less than fifty of the most frightening horror films. A marathon that requires a strong heart. To be able to classify these cinematographic works, all spectators were equipped with heart rate monitors. In 2021 and 2022, the prize for fear went to “Host”. Released in 2020 and directed by Rob Savage, the medium-length film of approximately one hour made the heart rate soar. Filmed during the Covid-19 pandemic, “Host” tells the story of a group of friends who try to stay in touch via Zoom during the health crisis. But virtual calls will quickly turn into a nightmare.

This year, it was “Sinister” which made the bravest shudder. A place that the film had already won in 2020 and 2023. Directed by Scott Derrickson, it stars actor Ethan Hawke in the shoes of Ellison, an author of detective novels. To find inspiration for his next work, he moved with his family into a house where the previous owners were found hanged. In the attic, he then discovers images of the assassinations of other families…

“Host” was relegated to the background, followed by “Skinamarink” (2022) and “Insidious” (2010). “Conjuring” (2013), “Paranormal Activity” (2009), “The Ring” (2002), “The Exorcist” (1973) and “The Blair Witch Project” (1999) are also part of the ranking. A list that gives goosebumps…
