Amount of the minimum wage, winter break, gas price… What changes on November 1, 2024

CLike all the beginnings of the month, some changes are expected from November 1, 2024. We take stock.

Revaluation of the minimum wage to 2%

During his general policy statement, Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced an anticipated increase in the minimum wage from November 1. “We will increase the minimum wage by 2% from November 1, in anticipation of the date of January 1,” he indicated. This increase will bring the monthly net minimum wage to around 1,426 euros, compared to 1,398.70 euros currently.

Each year, the minimum wage is increased mechanically according to inflation on January 1st. As soon as inflation is above 2%, other increases can be implemented during the year.

Gas prices

Every month, the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) publishes the benchmark sales price of natural gas for residential consumers. For hot water and cooking, the average price per kWh is 0.13830 euros (including tax). For heating, the average price per kWH is 0.10932 euros (including tax). The CRE translates these average prices – under current consumption assumptions – into an average benchmark price of €135.9/MWh including tax for all consumers combined.

For comparison, in July 2024, the average level of the benchmark sales price for natural gas was €129.2/MWh including tax, an increase of 11.7% compared to June 2024.

Obligation to use winter tires

This obligation concerns 34 departments. From November 1 to March 31, it is obligatory, in certain municipalities in the mountainous areas (Alps, Corsica, Massif central, Jura, Pyrenees, Vosges), to equip your vehicle with winter tires or to have snow chains or socks.

Winter break

From November 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, procedures for eviction of a tenant by an owner are suspended. The principle of the winter break has been extended to gas and electricity cuts, now prohibited during this period. However, certain exceptions apply, such as for tenants benefiting from rehousing or squatters or the spouse, PACS partner or violent partner in the couple or a child whose expulsion from the family home has been ordered.

Tobacco free month

This year marks the 9th edition of “No Tobacco Month”, inviting smokers to take on the challenge of quitting smoking for 30 days in November.
