“These are patches which, in the medium and long term, will generate more expenses”deplored Monday, October 28 on franceinfo Catherine Simonin, member of the France Assos Santé office and administrator of the League against Cancer, about the increase in user fees.

The government is banking on this increase in the out-of-pocket cost paid by the patient to achieve a billion euros in savings. The measure will be debated during the examination of the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) which arrives in the National Assembly on Monday.

The government plans to reduce the share covered by Social Security during a consultation with the doctor from the current 70% to 60%, for a saving of one billion euros. “This transfer of care will be based on complementary health insurance who will increase their contributions, but the contribution for complementary health insurance is not fair, it’s the same for everyone”alerted Catherine Simonin.

Retirees are particularly concerned because the contribution increases with risk, and therefore with age. “The risk is to see retirees stop their complementary health insurance and have major out-of-pocket expenses that no longer allow them to take care of their health on a daily basis”she worried. Instead, Catherine Simonin suggests “put a point of more contributions which would be based on income rather than transferring the burden from health insurance to supplementary health insurance”.
