Angélique Croteau was lying in her bed at her home in Repentigny and was getting ready to sleep, during the night from Saturday to Sunday, when she was hit by at least one bullet fired from a 12-gauge rifle, two floors below, who would have crossed the landings.
The 23-year-old woman is currently at the Sacré-Cœur-de-Montreal Hospital, seriously injured, but there is no fear for her life. She suffered injuries to her pelvis and internal organs.
His downstairs neighbor Marcel Potvin, 65, faces six charges for allegedly discharging a firearm into the ceiling while intoxicated.

He is accused:
- of having discharged a firearm without worrying about the presence or absence of a person;
- criminal negligence causing bodily harm;
- negligent use and storage of firearms;
- possession of weapons for dangerous purposes;
- impaired driving;
- and having had a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 0.08.

The victim’s father, Stéphane Croteau, recounted, between sobs, the minutes following the shooting.
She didn’t realize what was happening. […] She realized there was lots of blood, then that her mattress had a hole in it. She fell to the ground, crawled to her door and managed, with difficulty, to open the door. […] No one heard him, except at one point, the janitor, who came out.
His daughter will need long weeks of rehabilitation, he explained. She’s going to get through this, in any case, and then she’s going to be even stronger. We will do everything to make sure things go well.
