“This Saturday, October 19, 2024, around 11:30 a.m., an incident occurred at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) involving a Delta Airlines Boeing 767 bound for New York. The plane, during takeoff, performed an acceleration maneuver followed by an emergency stop due to a technical incident. The pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a safe stop.
Immediately after the incident, all airport stakeholders gathered around the Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport to assess the situation.
We would like to reassure the public that no personal injury was recorded. The 216 passengers on board, including 3 babies, are all safe. They were taken care of and transported to local hotels to ensure their comfort. Their departure for New York is scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday October 20, 2024, at 10 a.m.
To determine the exact causes of this incident, ANACIM will carry out an in-depth investigation and the Bureau of Investigation and Analysis (BEA) will open a technical investigation.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport would like to emphasize that instructions have been given to all the airport’s technical teams to guarantee the safety of passengers and ensure the continuity of activities at the airport.”
