The Day of the Night, a major national event dedicated to raising awareness of light pollution, the preservation of nocturnal biodiversity and the contemplation of the starry sky, was once again a great success.
This event, open to all, aims to promote a virtuous lighting policy, taking into account the needs for darkness, essential to health, the environment and stargazing.
An evening with three highlights was organized at Le Montat on Saturday October 12. Remember that at 7:45 p.m., the town was plunged into darkness with the switching off of public lighting. This significant gesture is symbolic for the reduction of light pollution and allows residents to rediscover the beauty of a preserved night sky.
The evening began at 6 p.m. with lively readings for young audiences, narrated by Michela Alegi from the Girotondo workshop, under the evocative theme “The night envoûtes me”. The children, captivated by the stories, showed keen attention, taking advantage of this fun and educational moment.
Then, at 7:30 p.m., cardiologist Pierre Blazy led a conference on the impact of light pollution on sleep, addressing the repercussions of excess light on health. A time for discussion and questions and answers allowed the audience to obtain information and discuss with the expert. The evening continued with a dinner break, offered by the municipalities of Le Montat and Fontanes, in a friendly atmosphere conducive to discussions on the issues of the night.
Like every year, this event allows the municipality of Le Montat and Fontanes to collaborate on a common action that concerns each of us.
The Day of Night thus continues to raise awareness of the importance of preserving our nocturnal environment, both for biodiversity and for our well-being.
