Alex Barré-Boulet played like a forward who had something to prove, Friday night, during the Rocket’s home opener at Place Bell against the Syracuse Crunch.

Submitted on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens after two games, Barré-Boulet was unclaimed and found himself in the American League.

Perhaps because he doesn’t want to stay in the AHL forever, the Montmagny native was brilliant against the Crunch, collecting two goals and two assists in a 5-2 win for his team.

Barré-Boulet was dominant on the power play with Joshua Roy, contributing to his Quebec sidekick’s two goals in similar circumstances.

Roy’s second goal was particularly spectacular. The Beauceron sent a laser into the upper part which left goalkeeper Matt Tomkins no chance. In front of the Rocket cage, Jakub Dobes stopped 25 pucks to remain undefeated in two starts.

Roy also got an assist to finish the night with three points. Number 10 had been shut out in the Rocket’s first two games of the season and had a differential of -3. He unlocked in a beautiful way.

If we forget the points for a few moments to focus on the fists, the tough fight put up by Vincent Arseneau in the first period caught the attention. The Rocket tough guy fractured a finger while reaching for his opponent’s helmet. Finger that he himself replaced, quite simply, after the fact.

The Laval Rocket will once again host the Joël Bouchard Crunch on Saturday in a second game in two evenings.
