TotalEnergies announces a new deepwater project in Angola

The giant TotalEnergies announced on May 21 the launch of an oil project located off the Angolan coast, whose production should begin in 2028 with the objective of reaching “a plateau of 70,000 barrels of oil per day”.

TotalEnergies, which owns 40 % of shares in the project, and its partners Petronas (40 %) and Sonangol (20 %), “announced that they have made the final investment decision (FID) of the Kaminho project, a project intended to develop the Cameia and Golfinho fields, located 100 km off the Angolan coast, by 1,700 m water depth”.

In addition, the oil giant indicates that its CEO Patrick Pouyanné met on May 20 in Luanda the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourençoas well as the CEOs of partner companies ANPG and Sonango.

A project estimated at nearly 6 billion

No official amount is communicated, but the Bloomberg agency mentions an investment of up to 6 billion.

The Kaminho project, which is “the first major deepwater development in the Kwanza Basin, includes the conversion of a VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) type tanker into a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, which will be connected to a system of underwater wells”specifies TotalEnergies.

The company claims that this floating unit, “all electric”East “designed to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and eliminate routine flaring” and “the associated gas will be entirely reinjected into the reservoir”.

Production planned for 2028

Production should start in 2028with a tray of 70,000 barrels of oil per day.

“This project will be both our seventh FPSO in Angola and the very first development in the Kwanza Basin”highlighted Patrick Pouyanné.

“Signed contracts include national companies and contribute to local content : more than 10 million hours of work will be carried out by local companies”for his part underlined Diamantino de Azevedo, Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas.
