The 32nd edition of the Grand Raid started this Thursday, October 17 in with the Zembrocal Trail relay whose participants set off from Saint-Joseph at 5 p.m. In Saint-Pierre, 2,839 runners from the Diagonale des Fous set off from the Ravine Blanche to the applause of the public. This Thursday, October 17, the start of the Diagonale des Fous was given at 10 p.m., local time, from Saint-Pierre while the first torchbearers of the Zembrocal Trail left at 5 p.m. from Saint-Joseph. The Mascareignes participants leave at 1 a.m. from the village of Hell-Bourg, in Salazie.

Nicknamed “the legend of the Mauritian trail”, Simon Desvaux De Marigny came first at 11:11 p.m., ahead of Romain Olivier, Mathieu Blanchard, Ben Dhiman and Aurélien Dunan-Pallaz and Germain Grangier. On the girls’ side, it was Manon Bohard who was first, ahead of Marylin Nakache and Julia Brulin.

In the end, 2,839 “crazy” people took the start of the Diagonale at 10 p.m. The runners left the Ravine Blanche site to the cheers of the Saint-Pierre public who came in large numbers to witness this highlight of the Grand Raid.

The start of the Grand Raid des Joëlettes was given half an hour before that of the Diagonale des Fous. Every year, people with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in this great human and sporting adventure made possible by the Réunion Aventures Joëlettes association and its big-hearted volunteers.

At 5 p.m., in front of the Saint-Joseph town hall, the approximately 222 runners of the first stage of the relay set off to reach Nez-de-Boeuf where another member of their team will take over the race.
