The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) confirms that the incident that occurred this Monday downtown in front of 100 Queen Street is not a homicide.

At around 6am on Monday, emergency services were contacted after a man suffered serious injuries from the fire. The victim ultimately succumbed to his burns in hospital.

An investigation was then opened by the homicide unit of the SPO in order to determine the circumstances leading to this death, described as suspect.

In a statement shared Wednesday, law enforcement said that after the initial stages of the investigation, there was no foul play in this tragic incident. The possibility of a homicide was therefore ruled out by the authorities.

The Ottawa Police Arson Unit will continue to work with the Office of the Fire Marshal to determine the substances involved in this fire. Note that the details surrounding this incident have not yet been revealed by the SPO.

The victim’s relatives have been contacted.
