After the death of Yahya Sinouar, Emmanuel Macron called for the release of the hundred hostages still in the hands of Hamas, a little over a year after the massacres committed on October 7, 2023.
“France demands the release of all the hostages still held by Hamas,” declared the President of the Republic on his X account. “Today, I think with emotion of the victims, including 48 of our compatriots, and of their loved ones”, expressed Emmanuel Macron this Thursday, October 17.
Two French people still captive
Among the hundred hostages still held by the Islamist movement are two French people, Ohad Yahalomi and Ofer Kalderon. On October 7, 2023, 42 French people were killed in the massacres perpetrated by Hamas on Israeli soil.
According to Emmanuel Macron, “Yahya Sinouar was the main person responsible for the terrorist attacks and barbaric acts” committed by the Islamist movement a little over a year ago.
For his part, American President Joe Biden also welcomed the death of the Hamas leader in a statement this Thursday, calling it “a good day for Israel, the United States and the world.” According to the tenant of the White House, this is “an opportunity for a political settlement” in the Gaza Strip.
During a speech this Thursday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the kidnappers’ lives will be saved if they free the hostages.
