Monday, the RN mayor of Fréjus David Rachline responded to the call launched by the journalist and environmental activist Hugo Clément who asked the mayors of to affix the face of the Canadian, founder of the Sea Shepherd foundation (incarcerated in Greenland and at risk extradition to Japan where his shocking actions in defense of whales could earn him incarceration). Tuesday, the thanks addressed by Hugo Clément to David Rachline triggered strong reactions on the Left.

“Nostalgic for Hitler”

Particularly virulent, the LFI deputy for Seine-et- Ersilia Soudais wrote a tweet in which she described the first magistrate of the Roman city as “mayor RN, nostalgic for Hitler”. A tweet that the elected official wanted not to let go, announcing the filing of a complaint, following “these remarks harm his honour”.

In a press release sent Thursday evening to -matin, the vice-president of the National Rally said he “unworthy”.

Grandparents “died in the gas chambers”

“I am agnostic and I deeply respect all beliefs, writes the elected official. My experience over many years in the field in Fréjus bears witness to this. These accusations are scandalous and defamatory, and were published without knowing my personal and family history. I am particularly shocked by these comments. My father was Jewish and my grandparents died in gas chambers during World War II. It is unacceptable to have to justify these family wounds. I reject with the greatest firmness any anti-Semitic act or remarks, as I have always done since the beginning of his political involvement. I also remind you that the vast majority of anti-Semitic acts are caused by people from the Islamo-leftist movement that France Insoumise and its allies have allowed to flourish and fuel for years.
