Me Preumont recalled that, according to the psychiatrist who looked into Daniel Gilles, “his powers of discernment were seriously impaired but not abolished at the time of the events“, due to his consumption of alcohol, cannabis and cocaine, in the form of sniffing and crack.”Mr Gilles is also mentally responsible for his actions“, further clarified the accused’s lawyer.

The latter had reminded the jurors of the constituent elements of the murder: the death of the victim, but also the weapon used, the number of blows delivered or the part of the body which was targeted, knowingly. “A kitchen knife was used to give 54 blows to the face, neck and chest.“
The debates on the sentence to be imposed on the murderer will begin Friday morning.
