The La Gîtée shelter has announced the appointment of Claudya Huppé-Proulx to the position of director of the organization offering a reception and support structure dedicated to women and their children who are victims of domestic violence.

Ms. Huppé-Proulx has experience in managing non-profit organizations, defending women’s rights and helping children in vulnerable situations. She notably held the position of director of the Appalaches Social Pediatrics Center and, more recently, that of political attaché to the MP for Lotbinière-Frontenac, Isabelle Lecours.

“For me, it’s a return to management, a function that I have always appreciated. I am currently finishing my master’s degree in management. I also love being with people and making a difference in the lives of those who are in vulnerable situations or who are experiencing things that are not obvious. My experience demonstrates this well. I have always loved helping others move forward and accomplish their life goals. This is what this position will allow me to do,” she explained in an interview with Courrier Frontenac.

Issues related to domestic violence also affect her, particularly with the recurring situations that have occurred in recent years and months. “It’s an important issue, we’re talking about the safety of women and children. La Gîtée is able to make a difference in this regard. My goal is to contribute to the important mission of the organization, to ensure its sustainability and to ensure its well-being. »

“My goal is to continue to provide a safe and respectful space for women and their children who need it most, while strengthening our actions to combat domestic violence and raise public awareness”

The new director describes herself as a unifying person, advocating teamwork. She wanted to highlight the expertise of the group in place, made up of just over twenty people. “That’s what struck me the most, there are some who have been there for 30 years and others who have just arrived. This means that there is a mixture of diverse experiences and different generations collaborating. This is incredible wealth. It’s rare to see this in the community environment. »

She wishes to focus, in the coming months, on improving the offer of services outside the La Gîtée structure in order to reach women who otherwise might never seek help, while strengthening prevention actions. Ms. Huppé-Proulx specified that this vision is also supported by the board of directors, adding that great new developments are coming to further expand the support offered to women. The house in fact aims to develop new projects focused on violence prevention, second stage accommodation, coercive violence and community education.

Founded in 1983, La Gîtée aims to offer women victims of domestic violence and their children a safe and welcoming living environment, as well as a whole range of services whose objective is to enable women to regain power. on their lives.
