The fire broke out on Wednesday around 6 p.m. at the Regional Logistics Center (CLR) of Vadec aux Bulles, in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The fire broke out in a pile of bulky waste that had not yet been shredded. Thermal cameras detected the start of the disaster and the personnel present on the site alarmed the Neuchâtel Mountains Fire and Rescue Service (SISMN). By early evening, the fire was under control. There were no injuries and damage to infrastructure was minimal. In a press release, Vadec specifies that “at no time was the population exposed to danger and the environmental consequences were minor. »

The origin of the fire is currently unknown. Vadec director Emmanuel Maître suspects a lithium-ion battery is the cause. “It’s a scourge,” he explains. The CLR already experienced a similar incident in May. And there, it was indeed a battery which was at the origin.

After controlling the fire, the firefighters, with the help of Vadec employees, had to open the pile of waste and water it. /cwi
